9:30am – 11:00am – Sunday Morning Dance
with Meshi Chavez & Winky Wheeler
$15 – $10 sliding scale, cash or check
The first thirty minutes of our time together is dedicated to solo exploration. After a brief silence our focus begins to shift. We expand our sense of self and begin to engage in the space around and beyond our bodies. This includes the four walls, the objects and the other dances happening now. We activate the so called ‘empty space’ between us. We engage through this active space and access the sense of The Mystery that is alive there. By nurturing it we deepen our connections. Here on the edge the known and unknown world the possibilities arise. We slip through time and space into a dance that unites us. http://www.ecstaticdancers.com/

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that dynamically blends an array of kicks, sweeps and acrobatics by setting them to traditional Brazilian rhythms and songs. It is simultaneously a martial art, a dance, a game, and a ritual. Having survived since its inception by African slaves who were brought to Brazil hundreds of years ago, Capoeira flourished in Bahia, Brazil during the early 20th century and continues to thrive and evolve today in the 21st century. Students are not only educated in methods of attack and evasion but also become familiar with the music, customs, philosophy and language of Capoeira. The result being not only a total body workout but immersion in a 100% Brazilian art form.
